don't get the whole timbaland featuring onerepublic thing. so timbaland wrote the song? is the band even doing anything or is it just the singer singing over timbaland's beat?

On reading most of the comments to the song on youtube, Onerepublic made the song apologize more than a year before it was released but timbaland just remixed it and let the world hear. Not 100% sure.
